Greetings to the community. I am a huge fan of rp, as my background dates back to years of D&D, AD&D, CRPGs, and Online CRPG's. My latest avenue was Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2, where the RP was *really* hardcore. I was dedicated to Neverwinter for over 10 years since it's birth, and now I finally decided to try my hands at a MMO. I actually tried out Bless Online and wasn't at all impressed. Hopefully AoC will be a lot better. Once I saw an RP thread at the forums, I jumped on it right away as this is my area of love and expertise. Will be hanging around both here and the official forums with you guys for the next couple of years until the game is released, then hopefully do some rp with you guys (I love HARDCORE rp). Here's to the road ahead *raises a chalice brimmed with red wine and downs the contents in one gulp*

We're really happy to have you on board! Sounds like you've got a lot of experience to bring to the table, too. Any particular RP concepts you're interested in trying out when it comes to Ashes?

Well I do believe Ashes RP will be new. Because in Neverwinter Nights they have entire servers dedicated to RP. But I'm not sure if Ashes of Creation will have that. If not, it will be up to us, to establish influence across a non RP server, which can be tedious and take time. I am eyeing the RP potential a lot over in the official forums, and gauging to see how far the RP potential of AoC will be. It's an MMO, but will have RP elements. So that's pretty new to me, as Neverwinter was not an mmo, it was just a CRPG. So I am looking forward to what this new scenery will bring.

Back in Neverwinter I enjoyed Underdark RP. I have read all of RA Salvatore's Drizzt Do'Urden series, and on an Underdark server I played a drow weaponmaster from a noble house. From what I know of AoC, there is an underground subterranean race called the Tulnar that might mimick the drow. But again it's a little bit early to make any solid presumptions. I did finally get around to purchasing the intrepid package, so whatever we do decide on RP for AoC we could do it together once alpha 1 is released. I'm pretty excited about it, even though I will be eating bread and fish for the next couple of months.

Oh, for sure! As of right now they've said that they don't intend to have RP servers, with the idea that they believe RPers should be spread across the population. And on that topic I can understand the ideal of having many different groups working together of course—but in essence as RPers there are many things we sacrifice without being around many other RPers. (Very lonely, when you're the only one in your town who'll interact in that way.) Which is why we're still going to rally around the idea of an Unofficial RP server as of current plans!

It definitely will be more of an uphill battle, though. Without a clear place for people looking for other RPers to flock, some who otherwise may have been interested may fall through the cracks. Without an established RP server it's inevitable, but we've just got to do our best as a community to spread the word to those who'd be interested.

I'd say in a game like Ashes, we as a community come from a lot of different viewpoints/methods. Some will be always IC from the moment they hit "Create Character", others will bounce between OOC and IC, some people are often OOC but'll dip into IC every once in a while. I'm definitely in the second category of some balance between OOC and IC—but I'm very involved with my RP. (It's just sometimes I do things that I don't intend for my character to be doing. A gameplay element might be a lot of fun and something I want to participate in (or even necessary to progress), but my character may not be the type to do it. So there's a bit of a barrier between my 'Just playing the game.' and 'This is for my character!' modes.)

As for my own hopes, I'd definitely love if we could have a thriving more "open" RP scene, where people are RPing out in the open and even encourage others to jump in. I saw a lot of that pre-Megaserver in GW2, and it was really great to meet characters and start encounters on-the-fly like that. In many other MMOs I've played that sort of thing hasn't existed, and the majority of the RP happened in private/behind closed doors. Which is fine too, and it seems like Ashes will facilitate that kind of RP too. But, it would be really great if we can accomplish the sort of community where people can successfully engage in RP out in the open as well.

And the Tulnar sound really fascinating so far! It'll be really awesome to see what they have in store for them culturally and visually. There's a lot of potential for the Underrealm, and we can even have entire metropolises down there if people gather up and work towards developing an Underrealm node.

Welcome Darksaber!

I lean more into hardcore RPer, myself. It'll be good to see more activity on these forums leading up to release!
